  • Japanese Culture Festival

The Japanese Language School presented their annual Japanese Culture Festival. I have gone to it for four years in a row now, and it continues to impress me every year. It is so well-organized with so many volunteers for everything including ikebana, origami, Japanese calligraphy, Sakura Choir, karate demonstration, trying on kimonos, Japanese art, and much more. It is such a treat for all the NKU students that get to experience many pieces of Japanese culture.

Another group of international and american students volunteered at a Bengals game to raise money for their organizations and various good causes (like ISU scholarships, don't forget to apply!). I got to meet a lot of interesting new people and familiar faces, so it was a lot of fun despite the hurricane winds as we were closing down.

Finally, raffles for travel-related prizes, including a grand prize of a free passport, will be occurring throughout the day.

  • Welcome Picnic 2008
Each year the ISA office and ISU have a picnic to welcome all of the new international students. It is a great way to get to meet people before the new semester starts. Most of these pictures are of students playing volleyball, but the picnic included a lot of good food cooked by Adam, and time to hang out with the new and current students.

  • New ISU Scholarships Available for International Students
ISU Scholarship Fund was created in the summer of 2008 and was approved by the ISU Officers and its advisors. During the spring semester of 2008 both ISU Officers and active members decided that we need to create a fund to help international students studying on F - 1 visa pay for their NKU tuition. In order to raise money for scholarships, we (the ISU members) will be working at the Paul Brown Stadium concession stands during Cincinnati Bengals’ games. Our goal is to raise at least $8,000 this season. The money raised will be given away as several scholarships for either books or tuition.

To apply for the scholarships, then please download and fill out the application form by clicking here (28 KB).

  • Reds Game
One of the 'classic' American past-times is going to a baseball game, and I believe most international students should experience it as part of American culture.

  • Potluck Dinner 2008 Pictures
Here are most of the pictures for the Potluck Dinner 2008. There was a ton of performances, and I really believe this was one of the best years ever, even if there were some minor hiccups as to be expected with events of this size. I hope everyday had a wonderful time, and enjoys the pictures. The Potluck DVD should be coming out soon, and I never get to take enough pictures of everyone at these events, but if you ever want more pictures then I am always happy to oblige.

  • Stories: Labor Day Fireworks
One of best ways to understand our culture is to see how others view it from their perspective. One student writes an interesting story about their first experience of seeing the Labor Day Fireworks. An experience that many of us take for granted or don't give much thought to. I would really like to personally thank Sudha Mali for writing the story and sharing it with others whom can hopefully learn from it as well as find it interesting.
